Six-month liner replacements were consuming maintenance time and labour. Results from similar chutes gave the site team a clear basis for making a change.
At a mining operation in West Tasmania, the CG12 chute’s studded rubber liners required replacement every six months. Each changeout placed recurring demands on the maintenance team, taking resources away from other plant priorities.
The objective was clear: extend liner service life and make replacement faster and simpler. With Magnefast™ already delivering measurable improvements elsewhere on site, maintenance personnel selected the system for CG12.
The Performance Behind the Decision
In similar applications on site, Magnefast™ had already delivered:
✓ More than 3× the liner service life
✓ Comparable changeouts reduced from three days to approx. three hours
✓ Two people required for changeouts instead of four
These were results the maintenance team had experienced firsthand. They provided the basis for extending Magnefast™ to CG12, where the team aimed to reduce both the frequency and duration of liner maintenance.
Upgrading the Wear Surface and Attachment System
The CG12 refurbishment replaced studded rubber liners with Magnefast™ ZTA ceramic wear liners on the chute floor and side wall.
The solution addresses two aspects of the maintenance challenge. The ceramic wear surface was selected to improve service life, while magnetic attachment eliminates traditional studs and simplifies future liner removal and replacement.
Reskinning work prepared the chute for the new lining system, with the completed installation establishing the next application of Magnefast™ at the operation.
Looking Beyond the Liner Purchase Price
For the site team, liner selection considers the maintenance commitment over the liner’s full service life: how long it lasts, how often it needs replacing and the time and people required for each changeout.
The CG12 upgrade puts that approach into practice. While its service performance is yet to be established, the selection was informed by proven results in comparable applications.
Maintenance personnel continue to use planned shutdowns to identify further opportunities to reduce liner maintenance requirements across the plant.
